Is a Hot Air Balloon Ride in Marrakech Safe?

Balloons lit by their burners during inflation before dawn near Marrakech

In short: hot air ballooning is one of the gentlest ways to fly, as long as the rules are respected. The most important rule is simple: the weather decides. If conditions are not suitable on the morning, the flight does not take place.

Weather comes first

Balloons fly at dawn because the air is calm. Every morning, the pilot assesses wind and visibility before take-off. If they are not right, the flight is cancelled — and you choose between rescheduling or a refund within 3 days. We never trade this rule for a booking.

The safety briefing

Before take-off, the pilot gives a short briefing in French, English or Arabic: how to stand in the basket, how to hold on during landing and what to expect. Listening carefully is the best thing you can do for a smooth flight.

Who should not fly?

  • Children under 10 years old.
  • Pregnant women.
  • People with a fear of heights.
  • People with heart or respiratory conditions.

If you have any doubt — reduced mobility, recent surgery or another concern — tell us before booking and we will advise you honestly.

What we ask of you

  • Be ready on time: the driver waits a maximum of 10 minutes.
  • Wear flat closed shoes and layers.
  • Follow the pilot’s instructions at all times, especially during landing.

Landing

Landings are usually soft. The balloon comes down wherever the wind has carried it, and the ground crew follows to meet you. Sometimes the basket tilts or slides a little — that is normal, and the briefing prepares you for it.
