In short: a hot air balloon ride in Marrakech is a sunrise experience that starts with a hotel pickup between 5:00 and 5:30 am and ends back at your hotel around 9:30–10:30 am. With Sky Balloon Marrakech, the shared Sunrise Flight costs €79 per person and a Private Balloon costs €3,600 for up to 16 guests. You pay a 25% deposit online and the rest on the morning of the flight.
This guide gathers everything travellers usually ask before booking: how the morning unfolds, what is included, how long you actually fly, what to wear and what happens if the weather is not right.
What is a hot air balloon ride in Marrakech?
Balloons fly at dawn, when the air is calm and stable. You lift off from open ground outside the city, drift above the plain, its villages and palm groves, and watch the light change over the High Atlas mountains on the horizon. It is slow, quiet and surprisingly gentle — there is no engine, only the occasional sound of the burner.
How the morning unfolds, step by step
- 5:00–5:30 am — Hotel pickup. A driver collects you from your hotel or riad in Marrakech. The exact time depends on where you are staying and is confirmed the day before.
- About 50 minutes — The drive. You leave the city lights behind while the sky slowly changes colour.
- Tea and inflation. Tea is served while the crew inflates the balloon. The pilot gives a short safety briefing in French, English or Arabic.
- 40 to 60 minutes — The flight. The duration depends on the weather conditions of the morning.
- Landing. The balloon lands wherever the wind has carried it; the ground crew follows and meets you there.
- Breakfast and certificate. A Moroccan breakfast is served after landing on the Sunrise Flight, and you receive a flight certificate.
- Around 9:30–10:30 am — Back at your hotel. The whole experience lasts 4 hours 30 minutes to 5 hours.
